Vergis je niet ! (“Don’t be mistaken!”)

Ben je atheïst, agnost, relativist, nihilist, spiritueel of existentialist? Dan is deze blog voor jou.  Deze simpele gedichtjes en verhalen zijn bedoeld om je te doen nadenken over de mogelijkheid of onmogelijkheid van je wereldbeeld! Wie reageert, krijgt zeker antwoord!

HIJ GOOIT MET ZIJN RAKETTEN EN ZIJN DRONES BIJNA ALLES DOOD WAT LEEFT. MAAR WAAROM IS DAT FOUT  ALS " TOCH IEDEREEN ZIJN EIGEN WAARHEID HEEFT"? De meeste mensen vandaag gaan ervan uit dat iedereen zijn eigen waarheid heeft. Toch vinden ze moord absoluut fout.  Kan het zijn dat onze moderne wereldbeelden ergens niet kloppen?

WHO SAYS THAT EVERYTHING IS RELATIVE AND TRUTH DOES NOT EXIST, SHOULD REMEMBER THAT THAT STATEMENT MUST BE RELATIVE AS WELL...

  WHEN YOU SAY THAT A PARTICULAR ACTION IS MORALLY ABSOLUTELY WRONG, YOU ARE SAYING THAT YOU BELIEVE IN AN ABSOLUTE MORAL STANDARD, RATHER THAN IN A SUBJECTIVE AND TEMPORARY OPINION HELD BY A PERSON OR A GROUP OF PEOPLE. Could this mean that worldviews like Relativism or Nihilism can never function as the basis for morality or science?

HAS HUMANITY REALLY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO EVOLVE TO THE POINT WHERE WE CAN BE SURE THAT WE ARE COMPLEX ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY KNOW ANYTHING? OR DO WE NEED TO WAIT ANOTHER FEW BILLION YEARS? Could this mean that worldviews based on evolution can not be used as the basis of knowledge?

Imagine that you got lost on the way out from a forest and your only hope of getting out alive is to follow directions from a magnetic compass. But instead of the compass pointing to the magnetic north, the compass always points to you. How helpful would that compass be? Not at all! It would be a useless thing. You would be lost forever! Do you think there is a "magnetic north" by which we can live? Or are we destined to live in the dark forever?

  Stel je voor dat je verdwaald bent in een groot en donker bos. Je enige hoop om er levend uit te komen is je kompas dat je gelukkig bij je hebt. Maar in plaats dat de naald van je kompas voortdurend naar het magnetische noorden blijft draaien, wijst de wijzer alleen maar naar jou. Wat heb je aan zo een kompas? Niets! De meeste mensen vandaag leven een leven waarbij de naald van hun levenskompas alleen op zichzelf gericht is. De vraag dan is natuurlijk hoe zij ooit kunnen weten of hun leven wel een doel heeft en hoe ze zouden moeten leven.  Wie de mens als uitgangspunt en als uiteindelijk doel neemt, weet niet meer wie hij is en waar hij heen gaat. Of bestaat er misschien toch een objectief magnetisch noorden dat bepaalt of we of de goede of de verkeerde weg zijn? 

Four guys were sitting a box. No windows, no doors. Darkness. Their interesting conversations were about what could possibly be outside the box. Four different and very intellectual opinions. But… nobody knew.  Simply because there was no way to know. Suddenly one of the flaps of the box opened and light streamed in. It took a few moments for them to get used to the light. For the first time they saw what was outside the box and… understood the meaning of what was inside the box. Their opinions were forgotten immediately. Do you think man is able to know by himself, without that extra information from the outside, what is the meaning of all things?

what is morally when it is a pure subjective thing? that your thoughts are valid, without using your brain to prove that? that the laws of nature will function the same way tomorrow as they did yesterday? that immaterial, unchanging and universal logic exists within a pure material and changing universe? the value of human beings, while believing that we are no more than bags of stardust?

  Op een koude morgen probeerde ik even warm te worden in een klein restaurantje in Leuven. Toen de jobstudent mijn warme koffie bracht, zei ik: "Je bent een goed mens!!" Met een brede glimlach antwoordde hij: "Ja, ik denk het wel!" Maar toen ik hem vroeg welke maatstaf hij hanteerde om zichzelf (of iets of iemand anders) goed of slecht te noemen, viel er een stilte. Hij was gelukkig slim genoeg om direct te beseffen dat, wanneer er geen absolute maatstaf zou bestaan, zijn oordeel over zichzelf maar zeer subjectief was. En daaruit blijkt dat populaire wereldbeelden die uitgaan van subjectiviteit en het niet bestaan van absolute waarheid, geen basis hebben voor moraliteit.   On a cold morning I tried to warm up in a small restaurant in Leuven. When the student worker brought my hot coffee, I said: "You are a good person!!" With a big smile he replied: "Yes, I think so!" But when I asked him what standard he used to call himself (or anything or anyone else) good or bad, there was a moment of silence. Fortunately he was smart enough to realize immediately that if no absolute standard exists, his judgment about himself would be very subjective. And from that it appears that popular worldviews that assume subjectivity and the non-existence of absolute truth have no basis for morality. That should certainly make us think…

"What I believe, is what I believe! You have your own opinion too!" But the big remaining question is: Is what you believe also true?

"Ik vind, ik vind, ik vind!" roept iedereen door elkaar. Dat is natuurlijk leuk, maar de vraag is: "Is het waar?"

A physics professor stood in front of his first-year students and confidently declared: “We are nothing more than matter. And our thoughts are simply random chemical reactions taking place in our brains.” And then… BAM!   The professor fainted. Why? Because the bottle of Coke sitting on his desk suddenly started talking. “Professor… are you sure about that?” A few minutes later, the professor came around. He looked at the bottle and asked: “How on earth can you talk?” The Coke bottle replied: “Well, Professor… how on earth can YOU talk if you're nothing more than a bunch of chemicals?” ============== Could it be that we have been told something that simply cannot be true?

  Een professor fysica zei tijdens zijn eerste college voor de eerstejaars studenten: "Wij zijn niets meer dan stof en onze gedachten zijn toevallige chemische reacties in ons hoofd" . Toen viel de professor flauw. Waarom? Plots was het flesje cola dat op zijn bureau stond beginnen te spreken en zei: "Professor, bent u daar zeker van?" Toen de professor weer bij kwam, vroeg hij het flesje cola: "Hoe komt het dat jij kan spreken?" . Waarop het flesje antwoordde: "Hoe komt het dat u kunt spreken als u eigenlijk niet meer bent dan ik?"  VRAAG OM OVER NA TE DENKEN: Zou het kunnen zijn dat ons iets verteld is wat niet mogelijk is? .

  "WAT EEN ELLENDE IN DE WERELD!" "Wat is er toch een ellende in de wereld, meneer," zei een man tegen mij. "Zeker," antwoordde ik. "Al hangt dat er wel vanaf hoe je ernaar kijkt." I want to be a criminal giving people sorrow. I know that's wrong today, but maybe ok tomorrow... When morality is subjective and changing, then it is a matter of time until murder is ok.

They told me there is no proof for God but... here is something odd: Today I understand that without God nothing can be proven. If this puzzles you, react to this post and let's talk!

"Bewijs voor God bestaat er niet!" Dat is wat men wil geloven. Maar dat je zonder Hem niets kan bewijzen, gaat de meeste petten ver te boven.

Whether we are talking about truth, morality, rationality, logic, the uniformity of nature or the value of human beings — none of these things ultimately make sense without God. Yet we all use them — and rightly so. So what does that mean? We are "borrowing" from God. (Not from religion!!) We rely on things that make sense only within the Christian worldview, even when we reject the God who makes them possible.

Truth is my own little poem, it is my own little son. For then nothing is right and nothing is wrong....

IF EVERYBODY HAS HIS OWN OPINION AND HIS OWN SUBJECTIVE VIEW, TELL ME THEN WHO IS RIGHT AND ALSO WHAT IS TRUE!

Als je je maar goed voelt in je velletje dan is alles wel ok. Want het leven is een spelletje We drinken er nog twee.

IS THERE A REASON WHY WE CIRCLE AROUND THE SUN? IS THERE ANY MEANING? OR IS IT JUST FOR FUN?

RELIGION HERE, RELIGION THERE, EVERYONE HAS A PROPHET ON A THRONE. BUT TRUTH CAN ONLY COME FROM ONE WHO KNOWS ALL THAT CAN BE KNOWN!

ALS ER NIETS WAAR IS, DAN IS HET OOK NIET WAAR DAT ER NIETS WAAR IS. VIND JE NIET DAT DAT EEN BEETJE RAAR IS?

IF EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN RULER, THEN STOP THE BUILDING NOW! OR THAT WHOLE ROOF YOU’RE BUILDING WILL COME CRASHING DOWN SOMEHOW! Believing that we can survive as humanity on the basis of personal "truth" and pure personal conviction, is the most destructive philosophy ever. 

ALS IEDER ZIJN EIGEN ROLMETER HEEFT, ZET DAN DE BOUW MAAR STOP! WANT ALS JE ERMEE DOORGAAT, KRIJG JE HET HELE DAK NOG OP JE KOP! "Ik heb mijn eigen waarheid" is wat je overal hoort vandaag. Eigenlijk moet dat zijn: "Ik heb mijn eigen mening". Maar met acht miljard meningen is het niet te verbazen dat onze wereld in elkaar stort. 

"WE ZIJN NIET MEER DAN WAT REACTIES EN WAT STOF", ZEI MENEER DE PROF. "DUS U BENT NIET MEER DAN IK?", ZEI DE COLA IN ZIJN BLIK.

Because if you don’t start with God, you ultimately have no foundation for knowing anything or claiming anything with certainty. The God of the Bible is absolute in His very being . Because He is all-knowing, He is the only possible ultimate source of Truth. Everything else is not absolute and therefore cannot ultimately guarantee truth. But... there is something strange! If you pay close attention, you will notice that everyone (!) nevertheless believes that there is only one truth . In fact, everything we do shows that we take this for granted. Whether we are talking about the laws of nature, morality, logic, or rationality. So don’t be mistaken! Deep down, everyone knows that God—the God of the Bible—exists. Even if we deny it, and even if we sometimes prefer to replace Him with another god ...

We willen zeggen dat het eigenlijk onmogelijk is om uit te gaan van een niet-christelijk wereldbeeld. En dan hebben we het niet over kerken of religie. We hebben het over Waarheid. Want wie niet bij God begint te denken, kan eigenlijk niets weten of met zekerheid beweren. De God van de Bijbel is Absoluut in Zijn wezen. Hij is de enig mogelijke bron van Waarheid, door Zijn Alwetendheid. Al het andere is niet absoluut en kan niet instaan voor waarheid. Maar... er is iets vreemds! Als je goed oplet zie je dat iedereen (!) toch gelooft dat er maar één enkele waarheid bestaat. Want in alles wat we doen, blijkt dat we daarvan uitgaan. Of het nu gaat om de natuurwetten, moraliteit, logica of rationaliteit. Vergis je dus niet! Iedereen weet ten diepste dat God (de God van de Bijbel) bestaat. Ook al zeggen we van niet en ook al vervangen we Hem soms liever door een andere god of filosofie. Want filosofie of religie kan ons niet ter verantwoording roepen. Reageren? Mailtje naar: al...

  "VERBODEN TE ZWEMMEN", stond er op een groot bord langs het meer. Maar het was een hete dag en de wandelaar kon de verleiding niet weerstaan om toch even het water in te gaan. Daar kreeg hij direct grote spijt van omdat hij plots gestoken werd door een vis. Een vis met giftige stekels. Zijn voet zwol op en hij kreeg allerlei hallucinaties. Hij heeft nog lang geleefd, maar nooit meer zonder de gevolgen van die steek. God heeft ons op grote borden gewaarschuwd om niet te doen wat Hij verboden had omdat Hij wist wat de gevolgen zouden zijn. Maar… wij konden de verleiding niet weerstaan. Onze wereld is vol van mensen die dagelijks lijden onder de gevolgen. Sommigen zijn gaan hallucineren en geloven vreemde dingen.  Anderen zien hun leven uit elkaar vallen.  Anderen lijden aan gevoelens van zinloosheid en weten echt niet meer waarom ze eigenlijk leven.  En weer anderen zijn rijk en gelukkig en geloven het waanbeeld dat het allemaal wel meevalt. Maar het gif werkt door. ...

  WAT JE EENMAAL IN JE LEVEN GELEZEN MOET HEBBEN Dit is, kort samengevat,  wat die oude Bijbel ons te zeggen heeft: 1. God is er (Hij is nooit begonnen of ontstaan). 2. Wij mensen hebben Zijn geboden ontelbare keren overtreden en hebben dus allemaal een onbetaalbare rekening.  3. Wij kunnen dat zelf nooit meer goedmaken, niet met de goede dingen die we doen en ook niet met wat religie. 4. God zegt dat wij al het verkeerde moeten haten en er volledig afscheid van moeten nemen. Ook van een verkeerd wereldbeeld en onze pogingen om Hem te ontkennen. 5. Het geweldige nieuws is dat God Zelf ervoor gezorgd heeft dat onze rekening betaald is.
